Annual Student vs.Teachers and Parents Basketball Game
Northridge had its annual Student vs. Teachers and Parents basketball game on Friday, February 10. The final score was Teachers and Parents 43 to 34!!! Thanks to Mrs. Boehm for organizing our game and to Mrs. Bantle who did a great job coaching this year’s winning team!
NCS Students Learn Fire Safety from St. Paul Fire Department
Fireman Kevin Magin from the St. Paul Fire Department spent the entire week instructing each class at NCS. Among many things, Fireman Magin discussed the importance and steps of good fire safety.
Preschool Nursery Rhyme Parade
January was Nursery Rhyme month in preschool and culminated with a parade of characters and recitation. Check out Old Mother Hubbard, the Mouse in Hickory, Dickory, Dock; Jack of Jack and Jill, and Jack of Jack Be Nimble, The Cat and the Fiddle!
Former Principal and Retired High School Math Teacher Enriches 6th Grade Math Program
After retiring as the math department chairman at the Wayne Central School district, Mr. Stuart came to work as the principal of Northridge until June, 2010. Mr. Stuart continues to serve at Northridge in many ways including weekly math instruction. The group pictured below meets weekly for lessons and practice in 9th grade algebra.

Therapy Dog Good Listener for Reading Practice
Every Monday at 10:00 AM, a very special visitor arrives to work with students in the library. That unusual visitor is Buddy, a specially trained therapy dog!! Buddy patiently sits in the library and listens as students from various classes come to practice their reading. For several years, therapy dogs have been used to help reluctant readers practice their developing skills in a non- threatening environment. As you can imagine, the students love this brief visit and are very motivated to read! Mrs. Becky Rene’ (pictured below), volunteers her time each week to provide this exciting and valuable service to the students at Northridge!
4th Grade Food Drive a Success!
The 4th grade ended their food drive today with a total of 228 cans!! The food will be delivered this week to the Irondequoit Community Cupboard, an organization designed to help families in need. Way to go, Grade 4!!
Xerox Engineer Visits
Xerox engineer, Mike Weigand, visits our 4th grade class once a month to instruct and experiment with our students as part of the Xerox Science Consultant Program. Today’s lesson and experiments demonstrated the transitions of matter. Here Mr. Weigand can be seen experimenting with liquid nitrogen and water!
NCS Students Receive Certificates from Red Cross
Tuesday, November 22: Today Miss Erin Caldwell from the American Red Cross presented the students of Northridge with a certificate of thanks for their personal work in raising monies for the agency. After three weeks of coin collection and a sixth grade bake sale, the students were able to donate $350.97 to help local disaster relief. This helping project is just one of the many practical ways we hope will help develop a caring, sharing student body.
Symbols of America

On November 17, the first graders completed and shared their first research project called the Symbols of America. The students gathered information from books and webquests about the American Flag, the Statue of Liberty, and the Bald Eagle. Each student wrote a speech and presented it in front of family and friends. The celebration was complete with many red, white and blue snacks!!!


Annual Pig Race Winner
Friday, October 14th marked our school’s Annual Pig Race. The Race is a fun way to conclude our drive and is always looked forward to by the students. Each class that participates in the school’s magazine fundraiser receives a pig to name and dress for the race. Pigrim, the fifth grade pig, took home the grand prize this year.
